Knocking Down the Laundry Mountain

Appliance Repair New York experts with Fleet Appliance Service are providing the following Laundry tips for cleaner clothes:

Where did that mountain of laundry come from? How did the small basket of laundry, just a few days ago, grow so significantly? Where are the washer and dryer anyway? Can they really be buried under all this dirty laundry?

Time flies and people get busy with work, school and life! The kids can’t find anything to wear and Mom is overwhelmed with house cleaning and the mountain of laundry that seems to have grown overnight!

The first tip for clean laundry is do not be tempted to overload the washer and dryer to speed up the process of knocking down the laundry mountain. Clothes will come out cleaner, with fewer wrinkles if they have room to move more freely during the agitating and tumbling process. Overloading the washer and dryer puts excess stress on the appliances, resulting in pre-mature breakdown and higher energy bills.

Sort laundry as it accumulates. Close zippers and clasp hooks to prevent snags. Check pockets to prevent things like tissues, money, candy and other items from making a bigger mess of your laundry and appliances.

Arrange the laundry room so you have plenty of space for sorting, stain treating and folding laundry so you don’t have clutter up other rooms. This way, while you are folding one load, you are right there when it is time to add fabric softener or remove certain items from the dryer that you don’t want to put through a complete cycle.

Do a load or two as needed between laundry days. With older style washing machines, it’s best to do only full loads to save energy; however, today’s high-efficiency, front-loading washing machines use less energy and less water than the traditional top-loaders. This means you can do smaller loads more often rather than allowing the laundry mountain to grow.

Fluff up bulky bedding and speed up drying time by tossing a couple of tennis balls into the dryer with your favorite blankets and comforters.
